This is my 3 day itinerary for the Jungfrau Region of Switzerland. The wife and I enjoyed our holiday in this beautiful region very much! This area is an extremely popular destination for tourists because it offers gorgeous landscapes, a diverse variety of outdoor activities, and a wide range of accommodations. We used the Swiss Half Fare Card to travel around, which gave us a 50% discount on our transportation costs.

Map of Jungfrau Region

The Jungfrau region consists of many towns and villages, but I have only marked out five popular ones in the map above: Interlaken, Wengen, Lauterbrunnen, Mürren and Grindelwald.

Day 1: Interlaken and Wengen

– Interlaken –

For our first day in the Jungfrau region, the wife and I stayed in Interlaken, which is a vibrant resort town. Many tourists like to stay here because it is home to a large number of retail shops, restaurants, and hotels.

It is also a convenient location that offers direct trains to many other Jungfrau region villages and major Switzerland cities.

However, we only stayed in this town for one night because it is not as tranquil or beautiful as other Swiss villages.

Instead, it is more like a convenient location for changing trains, with plenty of touristy shops and restaurants.

– Tandem Paragliding –

After a sumptuous breakfast at the Carlton Europe Hotel, we headed for our tandem paragliding adventure.

Tandem Paragliding is a paragliding activity where the passenger is strapped into a harness in front of a professional pilot.

We flew over Interlaken, as well as the beautiful Lake Brienz and Lake Thun. To see Switzerland from high up in the sky was truly an amazing experience!

We booked our paragliding activity with the awesome Paragliding Interlaken. Both our pilots were very professional and we felt very safe throughout the entire flight.

– Lake Brienz Cruise –

Next, we went for a cruise on Lake Brienz, a tranquil lake with shimmering turquoise waters. It is right beside the equally beautiful Lake Thun. Interlaken is located between these two famous lakes.

The wife and I had lots of fun on our cruise. We got to enjoy awesome scenery, and there were food onboard too.

We sailed directly from Interlaken to Brienz. The boat stopped at several lakefront attractions along the way, but we did not alight.

– Brienz –

After about 75 minutes, our boat reached Brienz, a scenic lakefront village known for its wood carving tradition.

It was a beautiful village with plenty of Swiss wooden chalets dotted on the lush mountainside.

From the boat dock, we started strolling along the lake. It was nice to hold the wife’s hand and walk along the waterfront while admiring the beauty of Lake Brienz.

To my pleasant surprise, I actually saw some pretty swans and ducks swimming gracefully about in the lake.

We spent about one hour exploring the village and taking some photos by the lake, before catching the train back to Interlaken.

– Wengen –

From Interlaken, we checked out of our hotel and took a train to Wengen, where we would be staying for two nights.

Wengen is a beautiful Swiss village known for its tranquil car-free setting, traditional wooden chalets, charming European-style hotels, and stunning scenery.

This idyllic village was definitely very different from the bustling Interlaken. We spent about one hour just walking around the village and revelling in its beauty.

– Pasta & More –

After that, we went for dinner at Pasta & More. This lovely Swiss restaurant is known for its delicious pasta dishes.

The wife ordered a Spaghetti Carbonara (CHF 21.50), while I went with a Roasted Chicken Breast (CHF 28.50). Both were delicious! After dinner, we went back to our comfy airbnb and retired for the night.

Day 2: Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen

The next morning, we woke up early to go to Grindelwald, which is the second largest town in the Jungfrau region after Interlaken. Similar to Interlaken, it is a vibrant touristy town with many hotels, retail shops and restaurants. But it does offers a great view of the Eiger.

We didn’t really spend any time exploring this town. The only reason why we came here was to take the cable car to the First Cliff Walk.

– First Cliff Walk –

From Grindelwald, we took a 25-minute cable car ride to the famous First Cliff Walk by Tissot.

This is a famous bridge walk along “First”, a famous summit on the Schwarzhorn mountain.

The highlight of the bridge walk is a viewing platform that extends out 45m over the cliff.

After getting out of the cable car, the wife and I walked to the metal bridge that skirted the cliff face.

After walking along the scary bridge for about 10 minutes, we reached the viewing platform! It was super cool to literally stand above the Swiss Alps valleys.

Unfortunately, visibility was quite poor when we visited. On clear days, the views are probably fantastic.

After the First Cliff Walk, we went to check out the First Flyer! This is a zip line that carries passengers from First cable car station to Shreckfeld cable car station.

It was really fun to glide through the air! I was yelling my lungs out during the super fun ride.

– Lauterbrunnen –

Our next stop was Lauterbrunnen, an idyllic Swiss village located at the bottom of a lush valley, surrounded by towering precipices.

The village is home to a large number of waterfalls (72 in total) cascading down from the mountains above. Like Wengen, Lauterbrunnen is a very peaceful Swiss village with beautiful surroundings. I really enjoyed the tranquility here.

– Staubbach Falls –

From the train station, the wife and I walked for about 12 minutes to the most famous waterfall in Lauterbrunnen: Staubbach Falls.

This beautiful waterfall cascades downwards from a towering height of 297 metres! It was a cool experience to stand near the bottom of the waterfall and see the waters falling from such a high height.

I used my drone to capture some aerial footage of Staubbach Falls and Lauterbrunnen, and even flew near the top of the waterfall!

– Restaurant Weidstübli –

After that, we went for dinner at my favourite restaurant in the Jungfrau region: Restaurant Weidstübli. It is just a three minute walk from Staubbach Falls.

This popular Swiss restaurant offers a variety of delicious Swiss comfort food. The restaurant had a wonderful cozy ambience, and service was very good too.

We ordered a Spaghetti Aglio e Olio (CHF 15.80) and a Rahmschnitzel (CHF 24.80). Both dishes were super delicious, but the portions were HUGE. We only managed to finish about half of the food.

Day 3: Interlaken

– Restaurant Taverne –

On our last day in the Jungfrau Region, the wife and I went back to Interlaken to catch our train.

Before leaving, we had a pleasant meal at Restaurant Taverne. This stylish restaurant offers classy Swiss cuisine and a selection of fine wines.

We ordered a Alp Cheese Fondue (CHF 26) and Rosti (CHF 6.50) to share. These Swiss specialities were really delicious!

The cheese fondue had a thick luscious texture and a lovely savoury-sweet flavour. It was simply perfect for dipping the the fondue bread and potatoes.

After the wonderful meal, we caught the train to our next stop in Europe: Paris!
