It is really easy to get to Staubbach Falls in Switzerland. This famous waterfall is located in Lauterbrunnen, an idyllic Swiss village in the Jungfrau region of Bernese Oberland. The village lies at the bottom of a deep valley, surrounded by majestic rock walls.

Due to its position at the valley bottom, Lauterbrunnen is home to many waterfalls (72 in total), and Staubbach Falls is the most well known one. The gorgeous waterfall cascades downwards from a towering height of 297 metres. It falls from such a high point that the water is almost lost in spray by the time it reaches the bottom! Below I will show you the easy steps to get to Staubbach Falls.

Step 1. Take The Train To Lauterbrunnen

First, the wife and I took the train to Lauterbrunnen station. We went from Wengen and it only took around 15 minutes. If you are going from Interlaken, the ride will take around 20 minutes. You can use the SBB website to check the train connections.

Step 2. Walk to Staubbach Falls

From Lauterbrunnen train station, we walked for about 12 minutes to Staubbach Falls. It was an easy walk over concrete pavement along the main road in the tranquil village.

Along the way, we saw rows of quaint Swiss timber chalets, against the backdrop of massive rock walls.

Soon, we spotted the beautiful waterfall from afar. The wife and I continued walking until we reached the wooden barriers around the fall.

It was a special experience to see the beautiful waterfall from the bottom. From the picture above, you can see that the waterfall has a really high altitude. We stayed for about 15 minutes to revel in its beauty.

Step 3. Go To The Staubbach Gallery (Optional)

It is possible to go up a steep trail to the Staubbach Gallery. From this viewing area, you will get to see the waterfall cascading down in front of you. You will also get to enjoy great views of the valley and Swiss Alps from a high vantage point.

However, this is not an easy trail and you will have to go through a tunnel, walk on slippery rock paths, and climb up steep metal stairs.

Unfortunately, when we visited in April, the viewing gallery was closed to visitors. It only opens between May and October. You can click here to see the most updated opening dates.
